From the Tee (Driving)

Nailing the drive from the tee is a combination of several elements that, when mastered, can significantly improve your game. For beginners, focusing on these three core areas – form, footwork, and the throw – is crucial. Let’s break them down: 

Form

Body Alignment: Your body should be aligned towards your target, with a focus on a smooth, controlled movement. Every part of your body, from your feet to your head, plays a role.


Arm Motion: Your arm should move in a fluid, whip-like motion. Focus on a smooth pull-through, keeping the disc close to your chest.


Grip: Hold the disc firmly but not too tightly. Your grip should be comfortable and controlled, ensuring the disc releases cleanly.

Footwork

The X-Step: For a right-handed throw, start with your left foot forward, step with your right foot behind the left, then step out with your left and pivot on your right. This helps to generate power. (Reverse the steps for left-handed throws.)


Balance: Maintain your balance throughout the throw. Your weight should transfer from the back foot to the front foot as you throw.


Pivot: Utilize the pivot foot to enhance control and distance. A well-executed pivot adds torque and aids in a clean, powerful release.
